Glossary of terms and definitions needed when renting a car rental

APO - Airport

Airport Code - A Three letter code used by airports.

Airport Surcharge  - A fee paid for picking up at the airport.

Additional Equipment – Equipment needed such as ski racks, car seats and booster seats.

Car Class – The size and type of vehicle.

Collision Damage Waiver also known as (CDW) -- A provision that pays the costs from accidental damage to the vehicle.

Daily Rate – A 24 hour rental period

EDC – Extra Day Charge – If you don't return your rental back in time there will be an hourly fee charged in addition to the normal daily charge.

One Way Rental – When you drop the car off at a different location.
 
PAE -- Personal Accident and Personal Effects Insurance the protects you and your passengers against injury, accident and loss to personal property

Rental Agreement (RA) -- The legally binding contract that outlines the terms of your rental.

Time and Mileage -- This includes the length of time rented and the mileage you're allowed daily.

Upgrade -- The ability to trade you car up to a higher class.

GPS  - Global Positioning System)- A device that calculates where you are and where you should turn using satellite signals.

Drop Box – Some locations allow you to drop off the vehicle after hours and provide a place to drop the vehicle and the keys.

Walk In – Airports and train stations often have rental offices.
